I feel I need to explain myself…

8 Apr

I’ve been getting some hating since starting this blog for my apparent ability to eat all things from chocolate to pasta in great proportions, and I feel it is time to share the truth and my personal “diet plan”.

First of all, I wasn’t always as thin as I am now.  In fact, in my group in high school you probably could have classified me as “the chubby one”, and looking back at old pictures now there is a noticeable difference in the roundness of all 4 of my cheeks.

I believe everyone has to find a diet that works for them.  For some it involves exercise and an active lifestyle.  For others it is strict avoidance of certain foods, like carbs or sugar.

Don’t hate me because I’ve found what works for me and it just happens to be having babies – as all parents know, there is plenty of blood, sweat, tears, self-denial and time commitment involved in this type of diet too!

While I am by no means at an ideal level of fitness I do actually love going to the gym, even if it is just to get some time for myself!  I also love being constantly facing the wrong way in aerobic Step classes with my dear friend Andrea, and I’m blessed with an athletic husband who understands my lack of coordination keeping me from sports and supports alternative methods of keeping fit by being available to parent.

Also, when I was pregnant with Gemma I had gestational diabetes and had to watch everything I ate and drank for sugar content, so believe it or not I eat a lot less sugar now than I used to!  I also drink nothing but water, and it’s amazing what a difference that makes.  No juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, iced tea…anything, and I don’t miss any of it.  When you skip all the sugar in a glass of juice (enough for a whole day!) you can suddenly eat a couple more cookies and not have a problem.  I also eat small amounts pretty much ALL the time, at least every hour, so my metabolism is always going full-tilt, and just like anything else, if you keep it in shape it works better.

Now I’m no nutritionist, so don’t blame me if this doesn’t work for you, but it works for me, and know that of course what I post isn’t ALL I eat, but it would be rather dull if I posted that I was eating some almonds, watermelon and broccoli today!  Obviously eating hourly means most of my choices have to be pretty healthy, I just balance that with a fair share of chocolate.

Mmmm….speaking of which….time to go  🙂

Write about more than food and babies! 🙂 Get your friends to get a photo of you at an aerobics class. 🙂 I think it’s all the killer calories that are scaring others mayber?

I am also a 8 glasses a day gal. I really think that water is the wondeful cure to a lot of things. If I feel over tired, have a headache ,feel bloated, or over hungry I know it is because I haven’t had enough water in a day. But as someone who has to work at staying in shape, it is good to know you aren’t scarfing down cookies all day, looking as good as you do. But keep posting up recipes, I love trying them out (and so does Derek, your chocolate chip recipe is my go to one now), plus I love reading your blog. 🙂

Don’t listen to the haters. If you have found what works for you, rock on. I’ve always wanted to try the drinking only water thing, I’ve just been indoctrinated into the soda habit too much. Need more willpower!

Don’t worry Anna . . . everyone has different body issues and struggles. Some might have trouble keeping the weight off, others keeping the weight on. Lots of people have allergies and certain foods they can’t eat. It’s always a grass is greener on the other side type of scenario 🙂

Well, if having babies is what works for you, then keep those cuties coming! 😉 Love you!
